Engineering of ceramic components, composite materials and surface engineering

Coatings, fiber composites and solid ceramic components

Profile of specialization

Ceramic materials are indispensable in medical technology. Joint implants, dental crowns, bioceramic coatings and functional ceramic materials in apparatus engineering are just a few examples. Ceramic reinforcing fibers made of aluminum oxide or carbon are also included. We encounter fiber-reinforced plastics every day; the reinforcing fibers that make the plastic stiffer and stronger are ceramic or non-metallic in nature (e.g. made of glass or carbon).

Our specialization subject introduces to all the important materials, manufacturing processes and forms of appearance in three lectures. Whether coatings, fiber composites or solid ceramic components, you will get an overview of the variety and applications of modern ceramic materials. The surface technology lecture also covers coating processes for the production of metallic and polymer coatings and their applications.
