At the beginning of December 2023, students of the IFSW („Förderkreis für sehr gute Studierende“) and students attending the lectures on Material Processing with Lasers, Fundamentals of Lasers and Lasers in Manufacturing had the unique opportunity to visit the laser application laboratory and the modern production facilities of Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim. The visit offered a fascinating insight into laser process development and application at Mercedes-Benz. The participants had the opportunity to see how laser processes for various applications are developed in the application laboratory at Mercedes-Benz.
During the tour through the production facilities, the students were able to experience the application of laser processes in production. They also had the opportunity to talk directly to a graduate of the University of Stuttgart who is now employed at Mercedes-Benz. The visit in Untertürkheim was instructive and showed the students how the laser and the knowledge they learnt is applied beyond their studies.
