At the beginning of February 2023, the IFSW and its partners – the wbk Institute of Production Sience at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the Source and Detectors Group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Boulder (Colorado USA), and the Nuclear Materials Group at the University of California, Berkeley (USA) - launched the AddTemp project.
The common goal of this research project, which is being conducted as part of the Innovation Campus Future Mobility (ICM), is to generate specific microstructures by directly influencing the cooling parameters in additively manufactured parts in order to be able to set the locally required thermal, electrical and mechanical properties of the produced components.
AddTemp builds on the successfully completed ICM project "AD3 AddSub", which combined the processes 'Laser Powder Bed Fusion' with cw lasers and ablation with ultra-short pulsed laser beams. Based on these results, there are fundamentally new possibilities to influence the heat conduction and thus the cooling gradients in the component.
