We are pleased to announce that Prof. John Powell will be a Visiting Professor at the InnovationCampus Future Mobility (ICM) for two years!
Intercultural diversity in research and teaching is actively practiced at the University of Stuttgart. The visit takes place within the "Future Mobility Grants" of the ICM, which support the international collaboration with researchers from all over the world.
John Powell completed his PhD in laser cladding (DED) from Imperial College, London University in 1983. He then set up a laser cutting jobshop with a couple of friends while holding a part-time academic research post at Loughborough University. Since the 1990’s he has continued to combine industrial with his academic work as a visiting professor at the universities of Lulea (Sweden) and Nottingham (UK).
Prof. Powell is the author of over 170 papers on all aspects of laser material processing and three books on laser cutting. The jobshop he co-founded in 1984 (Laser Expertise Ltd) now employs 80 people. He is also a keen musician and the author of two books on music: How Music Works (available in ten languages, including German) and Why We Love Music.
John Powell is delighted to join the Stuttgart ICM team and is looking forward to contributing to its ground-breaking research. He will be teaching and researching in Stuttgart for two years!
