The IMA contributes far-reaching competences from the field of gearboxes and drive-train technology to the WindForS research cluster. Thanks to the active cooperation, there is now the possibility to investigate gearboxes from the research wind farm WINSENT on the test benches of the institute. In particular, the focus is on AI-based damage detection and localization during operation. In addition, various adaptive control strategies for relieving damaged areas are being investigated in order to extend service life and prevent failures. Currently, testing is already underway at the institute with a specially developed test gearbox.
The long-term goal is to implement intelligent adaptive operating strategies in the drive-trains of the WINSENT research facility. By locally relieving damaged teeth, the service life of the gearboxes can be significantly increased without having to reduce the power output of the systems.
